Groups go by Spring 2027 playing age

* As these groups fill up, we add new ones. If the one you want is already full, ask us and we will get your player into the next group.

The Academy runs in Lexington only. It is a joint PPL and HPL program, and Lexington is the one building the two of us share. Our Louisville and Marion facilities run PPL pitching training, not this Academy.

How we start

We watch first. Then we teach.

Every player is assessed before we hand them a drill. We find out what they can already do, where the swing or the arm action actually breaks down, and what they are ready to be asked for.

Then the drills are set to that player. The kid who has never been coached and the kid who has played travel ball for three years are in the same group on the same Sunday, and neither one is doing work meant for somebody else. Nobody is bored and nobody is lost.

01

Assess

What they can do today, watched rather than assumed.

02

Match

Drills set to that player’s level, not the group average.

03

Move it

The ask goes up as they earn it, week over week.

The Sunday

Work first. Then we compete.

Every week runs the same shape, so the kids know what they are walking into and you can see what changed since last Sunday.

Hitting

Setup, load, and a swing that repeats.

Fielding

Footwork before hands.

Throwing & pitching

How to throw without hurting. Pitching is in the 9 to 12 group.

Baserunning

Reads, turns, and the secondary lead.

Then the competitions and relays, which is the part they tell you about in the car.

Who runs it

Coached by people who played.

Aaron Helton, PPL’s Youth Director, runs the Academy, alongside other former college baseball players. The same staff who work with PPL’s pitchers the rest of the week.

Not sure which group your player belongs in? A young nine or an older eight can go either way, and we would rather push them than let them coast. Call or text us at (859) 927-8990.
