How we look
The delivery is filmed and reviewed frame by frame. That is where a flaw stops being a phrase like stay closed and becomes a specific thing happening at a specific moment, which is the only version an athlete can do anything about.
What we change first
A delivery usually has several things worth fixing and exactly one that is causing the others. Chasing all of them at once is how a pitcher ends up worse and more confused. We name the first one and leave the rest alone until it holds.
Cueing
Cues like stay back or stay closed ask an athlete to think about a body part in the middle of a violent movement. Most of the time a constraint or a different target does more in one session than a month of being told. That is a coaching decision, and it is the sort of thing we get right because we watch every pitch.
Proof
A change that feels great and does nothing to the ball is not a change. Every bullpen is on Trackman, so what happened to velocity, spin and location is on the screen next to the video.
